Originally designed in 1965, the course was rebuilt in 1991 to enhance its playability as well as showcase the natural landscape. In 1991 Harpeth Hills became a regional qualifying site for the USGA Public Links Championship. This tight parkland style course has narrow fairways and many trees that can alter shots. The medium sized greens are undulating and moderate in speed. Water hazards come into play on five holes, and there are a few par 4's that measure over 400 yards. One of the hardest holes is #16, a 428-yard, par 4, requiring a downhill tee shot to the landing area below, then an uphill approach shot to the green. The course plays from 5,485 to 6,887-yards and there are three sets of tees to accommodate a varitety of skill levels. Carts are mandatory on weekends and holidays. Votes as on of the 10 best courses in Tennessee, it si the former home to the Senior Classic at Gaylord Opryland from 1993-2003. The fairways are tree lined, and the greens are average in size and speed. Water hazards come into play on a few holes. On some holes there are dual paths to the greens. The "play it safe" route and the "go for it" route. Senior discounts are only available Monday through Friday.
