Prospective Students and Parents Touring Local Universities There are a lot of great schools in Nashville and
while you are here, it's important that you get a feel for the college
crowd culture. Since you are young and have so much energy, this day trip
will extend into the night as well. Feel free to ditch your parents for
this part or if they are tragically hip, bring them along for the ride
as well. If location and price are not that important, the Opryland Hote is about 15 minutes north-east of the city and is exceptional by any standards. We expect you to be up by 8am and out the door by 9am. Your first stop will be Pancake Pantry in Hillsboro Village. It's a good solid breakfast and it is in arguably the coolest community in Nashville. After breakfast, take 30 minutes to scan the shops in Hillsboro village. Since you waited in a 20 minute line at the Pantry and shopped for 30 or so minutes, it'll be 10:30 by the time you're ready to move on. Now it's time for some culture...your parents will appreciate this and you need to broaden your horizon anyway. Head over to the The Parthenon in Centennial Park on West End Ave, across from Vanderbilt University. Check out the art gallery du jour and don't miss the Athena statue within. If it's a nice day, walk on the grass outdoors and get a good look around. It should be noon or 12:30 by now and it's time for lunch. You MUST go to San Antonio Taco Company on 21st Avenue. I recommend 2 chicken fajitas with your favorite toppings and 1 order of chips & queso per person. If you're of age, I also highly recommend the bucket of Corona and order up some sunshine while you're at it. You're livin' the life now! Go back to your hotel and take a nap for 45 minutes to let lunch settle in. Call Mambu and make reservations for dinner at 6pm. It's a quiet unassuming place with some of the finest Asian, seafood (and other) cuisine in town. We'll head back out at 3:30pm. You need to check out downtown now. Drive downtown and find a parking spot at a meter or pay $6.00 for an hour at any parking lot. Try to park close to 2nd Ave. It's fairly easy to find a spot between 2nd and 5th. Walk towards downtown until you hit the river. Take a stroll along Riverfront Park. If you're here in the summer, give the carousel a whirl. Now walk the length of 2nd Avenue as you head back to your car. Take your time...remember our dinner reservation is at 6pm and we're only 15 minutes away from the restaurant. Eat at Mambu and savor every bite. You should be out of there by 7:30 - 8:00 pm. If you're up for some nightlife (and you are of age), go to Jackson's back in Hillsboro Village for a glass of Shiraz and then off to Robert's Western World for some good old fashioned country swing. A standard swing step will take you though everything the live band has to offer. Tell Brazil Billy hi for me. If you still can't get enough and feel the need to see and be seen, head out to The Trace for the final nightcap. It's back in Hillsboro Village. Depending on your mood, it may be wise to get a cab for the last few items. It's better to be safe than sorry. I'd recommend Yellow Cab at 615-256-0101. Call about 20 minutes before you actually need the cab! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If this article has been helpful to you, we encourage you to reserve your hotel room through our reservations system. We have exceptionally low rates on the accomodations mentioned here as well as discounted rates on hundreds of other hotels throughout the city. |
